Exports to Australia for February wer& — Victoria, £505,000 ; Sydney, £290,600 ; Adelaide, £131,200. Further correspondence on the Central Asian question has been submitted to Parliament. It consists of 106 despatches, with dates antecedent to those published, including a letter! from Lord Northbrook, the GovernorGeneral of India, approving of the boundary of Affghanistan. The correspondence shows that Russia for the last four years has most solemnly dis- j claimed any intention of making a further advance than Turkistan. March 12. After a lengthy discussion the House i of Commons rejected the Irish Univer-j sity Bill on the second reading by a majority of 287 against 284. On the result of the division being known, Mr Gladstone demanded an adjournment till Thursday. . The Times, referring to the result of the division, trusts that the Government will remain in office. Concessions were promised by the Government in the Bill, which satisfied the Liberals but drove the Irish members into opposition. Mr Gladstone interviewed the Queen to-day, and a Cabinet Council was afterwards held. At the conclusion of the sitting Mr Gladstone proceeded to Buckingham Palace, and tendered to the Queen the resignation of the Ministry. Spain-, March 12. The Carlists defeated the regular troops with severe loss near Pampeluna. The Atlantic cable of 1865 is interrupted. Beelin, March. 12. The German Parliament opened today. The Emperor, in his opening speech, expressed a hope that the speedy settlement of the financial question with France would lead to the entire evacuation of the French territory afc an earlier date than was expected. London, March 13. Mr Gladstone this afternoon announced to the House the acceptance of the Ministry's resignation by the Queen, and stated that they only hold office until the appointment of their successors. The House adjourned until Monday. The Queen has summoned Mr Disraeli, and entrusted him with the task of forming an adminiatration. Mr Disraeli asked that time should "be afforded hira to consult his friends, to which the Queen assented. In the meantime Disraeli telegraphed to Earl Derby, Lord Cairns and Earl Carnarvon, all of whom are on the Continent. The Conservatives hesitate to attempt to gtfeern with a minority, and great ' trao» rtaintv prevails as to the issue o the crisis. It is Btated that Mr Glad stone will never again accept office. tor,'and resigned his office of Secretary to the Treasury. London, March 14. Russia has ceded the territory of Baskantschak to the Kerghese, the object being to secure their neutrality. Mr Disraeli sees the Queen on Saturday, and it is rumoured that he will declare his. inability to form a Cabinet, and will advise that Lord Derby shall be sent for. Sir Jamea Ferguson was married yesterday to Miss Olive Eichinann, of South Australia. An Anglo-Australian Steam Company, for a service, via the Cape of Good Hope, has been registered. Its capital is one million and a quarter. Pxeis, March 14. The Assembly has voted the Constitutional Bills, and also adopted a Bill continuing old tariffs with England, until a new one is voted. London, March 15. Mr Disraeli, after conferring with Lord Derby, explained to the Queen his reasons for declining office. The Conservatives are urging Lord Derby to form a Cabinet. Mr Gladstone is anxious to retire from office, but the Liberals are confident of inducing him to resume. It is expected that there will be a further adjournment of Parliament. The ship Carangos, with railway plant, and three hundred and ten labourers, has sailed for Tasmania. France and Germany have signed an agreement stipulating for the payment of the indemnity money by instalments, terminating in Sept. next, the Germans evacuating the whole of the French territory in July, excepting Verdun and its district which they occupy until September. The London wool sale 3 closed last night; prices were steady. During the series 131,086 bales have been catalogued, and 9000 withdrawn. The exports have reached forty-five thousand. French buyers are numerous. German and Belgian are scant in number, while American are altogether absent. A new scale of prices is established, being twenty-five per cent, below those of 1872. Trade is moderately stocked, and an early recovery in value is improbable. The next sales commence on the 24th of April. . Money is firm ; there is a large gold demand. The stock markets are weak. New Zealand consolidated fives 103 f. Mutton, 39s to 435; beef, 38s to 425. Hides dull, leather lower, hemp drooping, tin scarce, wheat recovering. London, March 16. The Atlantic Cable of 1865 has broken two miles from the shore end. After Mr Disraeli had interviewed the Queen, Her Majesty summoned Mr Gladstone, who had not had time to consult colleagues, but will probably resume office. March 17. Mr Knatchbull Hugessen, late Undersecretary for the Colonies, has been created a Privy Councillor. A New Zealand Land and Coal Company is projected, with a capital of £100,000. Galle, March 17. Sailed — Sumatra, mail steamer, for Australia. In the House of Commons to-day, Mr Gladstone said that the Queen having intimated to him that the Opposition had abandoned the expectation of ' forming a Cabinet, he had again placed his services at the Queen's disposal, and, with a view of consulting his colleagues, moved an adjournment of the House until Thursday. Mr Disraeli then rose, and said he had informed the Queen that he would have been prepared to form a Government, but only on condition of having a new Parliament. The House then adjourned until Thursday. Madeid, March 17. The Government troops have defeated three thousand Carlists. London, March 18. The Australian mails via Brindisi, and the Californian mail by the Nevada, have been delivered. The East Indian wool sales show an average decline of threepence. • The strike in the Welsh collieries has terminated, the colliers agreeing to accept reduced wages for one week, but afterwards to have them advanced. Paeis, March 18. The French Army Reorganisation Bill provides for a standing force of a million men, divided into twelve corps d'armce.

The Trench budget of 1874 is likely to be equalised by a readjustment of indirect taxation, and it is estimated that the amount of the indemnity will be covered by the outstanding balance of the last loan. London, March 21. The Queen granted an audience to Mr Gladstone yesterday, and from what transpired it is probable that the Ministry will retain office without undergoing any modification. Mr Lowe presents the budget on Thursday, April 3, estimated receipts seventysix millions, and expenditure seventyone millions. Mr Disraeli in the Commons, and the Duke of Richmond in the Lords, explained their reasons for declining office. The Queen had authorised a dissolution ; but the moment was considered inopportune, as the Conservatives had not prepared their programme. Mr Q-ladstone announced in the House of Commons that the Ministry remains intact. Owing to the excessive price of iron, Wolverhampton has stopped all business. Coals in Yorkshire, are 4s to 5s higher.
