COMMERCIAL.
New Zealand flax is slightly improved in price. Stocks are large. The quotations are— fine quality, £25 (? £35) ; fair, £24 ; and common, £15 per ton. The Otago and Southland Investment Company has declared a dividend of 10 per cent for the year.
The following quotations of New Zealand Stocks are given on May 18 : — Sixes, 1891, 111 to 113 ; ditto fives, 98£ to 99^; ditto, fives consolidated, 98 to 99 ; ditto, sixes, March-Septem-ber, 110 to 112 ; ditto, Bixes, JuneDecember, 111 to 113. In Stables^ Straker, & Co.'s circular it is noted that the exports for the month have been materially influenced by the opening shipments of spring drapery goods. The aggregate value for the month has been £988,771, as against £645,414 in the preceding i month. In New Zealand exports there is an increase of £65,876.
