CHRISTCHURCH. This Dat. (Before C. C. Bowen, Esq., R.M.) Dbunkenness. — Ann Osborn, on bail, was prored by the evidence o f Sergeant Pratt to ! have been drunk and diiorderly yesterday, and, being a previous offender, was fined 20s. — Joseph Ward, an elderly man, in the custody of Constable Wilson, was charged with having been drunk and fighting in a public thoroughfare yesterday. D. M'Guinness, landlord of Mills' Hotel, proved the fighting to have occurred in front of his home, after Ward was ejected from it for refusing to pay for liquors served. There was another man with prisoner, but he escaped. A fine of 10s was imposed. — William Holcroft and G eorge Oxspring werecharged, the former with having been guilty of drunkenness and indecent exposure, and the latter with having resisted the police in the execution of their duty. Constable Eares proved to arresting Holcroft for the offences recorded against him, and to Oxspring, who was in his company, trying to effect his release. In defence, the prisoners stated that they were but just arrived in the province by the ship Ramsay, and, meeting with a few friends, had taken too much liquor, but had no intention of doing anything wrong, or any knowledge of having done so. His Worship said he was sorry to see new arrivals commencing in .such a disreputable manner, and they would be fined 20s each.
