Galle, April 20. The telegraph cable vi& the Bed Sea, and the new land. line recently opened to Europe, are working well. The Duke of Edinburgh arrived in the Galatea at Colombo on March 31, Commodore Heath meeting him with ihe flagship. The Duke, had a warm reception, and has since been treated ito the sight of elephant drives. He is now hunting in the hill country. Since arriving here the Duke of Edinburghhas received a telegram from the Admiralty altering the destination of the Galatea, and ordering her on to the Australian station for two years. He will proceed to Mauritius, thence to the Cape, thence to Australia. The reasons for the change are not known. Harvest prospects are gloomy throughout the Punjaub. The Duke of Edinburgh left Bombay on March 19, for Madras, where he rejoined his ship. His reception at Madras was enthusiastic. The Indian Budget shows a revenue last year of £52,900,000, leaving a deficit of £625,596. Great reduction has been made in the Civil Service, and the income tax is considerably increased. The Maharajah of Euppoor, whilst on his way to England, was taken iU, and died while returning to Bombay.
