Sherman's Funding Bill, authorising the issue of 120,000,000 dbls. bonds has passed the Senate. The principal and interest are payable in coin and exempt from taxation. Georgia and Texas have been re-ad-mitted into the Union. Several State legislatures reject the proposal for female suffrage. Bevely, a negro, admitted to the Senate, takes the seat of Jefferson Davis. A Congressional enquiry into the gold rise abuses led to the result that President Grant is fully exonerated. Wright, a negro senator, has been appointed to the Supreme Judgeship of South Carolina. A resolution of the House of Eepresentativea for the issue of ten million pounds of greenbacks was quashed by the Senate. Meehan, President of the Fenian Senate, was shot by the ex-secretary of the brotherhood. The invasion of Canada is recommended by General O'Neil. A New York editor has been publicly cowhided by Lydia Thompson and Miss Markham, for characterising them aa indecent actresses. The news from Bed River states that the attempt to put down Kiel's Government at Fort Garry had failed. Major Bol ton is a prisoner, and it is feared that he will be shot.
