Timxbtj, May 22, 5.20 p.m; There has been a fall of- about fire inches of rain in the Timafu district, from Wednesday morning to Friday »ight. A iew small bridges and culverts have been washed away. In Timaru, a culvert burst, and a portion of Mesairs George Gray, Bussell and Co.'s stores were flooded, and a small quantity of grain damaged. All the rivers were impassable till yesterday, when. the mails crossed. Nelson, May 21; 6.45 p.m. There 'is nb native newa from Auckland, unless the stoppage of a vessel from landine; flax machinery on land leased .for flax work at Kawanui near Raglan. The event is not considered of much importance. The King has given orders. that care should be taken no harm is done to the vessel, and that everything should be done to prevent i disagreement. | The schooner Challenge has been i wrecked at Manakau Heads. Trade is dull in Auckland. The gold returns show that the Thames has yielded 10,800 bzs.for the month. Napieb, May 22, 5.25 p.m. The St. Kilda left; last 'evening for Wairoa. She takes Bopata and his people home; they having scoured a considerable portionoftheTJrewera country . Lieut. Porter, whoaccompanied Bopata,
states that 10 out of 30 prisoners lately taken were upwards of six feet in height, stalwart men, and fit companions for Kooti. The winter has set in in Waikaremoana. Mr M'Lean leaves Auckland to-day in the Luna for Napier. It is presumed that he will remain a few days there. Mr. Locke proceeded this morning to attend a large meeting at Taupo, at I which the King and Eewj are to be present. Mr Ormond, from his attendance being necessary in the Provincial Council, now sitting, will be unable to be there. .MrM'Lean,beinga member of the Provincial Council, now in session, may be present. We shall thus have the Defence and Native Minister sitting as a private member.
