BASKETBALL GIRLS AT WAIHI
CREDITABLE MARCHING DISPLAY Only two of the live local Basketball clubs who had planned to participate in the open tournament last Saturday, at Waihi, eventually made the trip. These were United and Rangiuru, who were rewarded with a fine day and a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Their playing record was only fair, United 1 win, 2 losses, and Rangiuru, 2 wins, 1 loss. The former club however, performed well in the marching competition and tied, along with several other clubs, with 36 points. out of a possible 40. The Maori girls scored 35 points in this event. Friendy matches which were to have been conducted among the remaining clubs on the home courts, were spoilt owing to the rain. It is understood that both the officials and the girls are extremely satified with the new rep blazers. Incidentally it has been felt that the lack of this apparel in the past season has militated the chances of rep teams in the marching contests staged at open tournaments.
