The following players have been selected to train for the forthcom- * ing Hurinui Shield match, and are requested to be present at a practice to be held next Thursday eveninf at 7-15 sharp. Players who do not attend are liable to be omitted from the team. Mr C. Satherly has been appointed coach. Forwards—P. Webber, Hunter, Rubee, Hughes, Ollivier, Steevens, Nichoson, Clarke, O’Reilly, T. Leonard, G. Webber, Satherly, Wilkins, Wyckliffe. Backs—Tapsell, Hickson, GXenham, Smith, Wilson, Ahomiro, R. McKenzie, Kelly, Graham, Lilias, W! Conway, Haywood, P. Mann.
S VTURDAY’S MATCHES
foAKETU TEAM'S WITHDRAWAL
Seniors.—The club football on Saturday was marred by the failure of the Maketu Club to field a team on their home ground, and the Papamoa team, unaware of their opponent’s withdrawal had a lost trip.
Juniors.—ln the junior fixture, the Rangiuru team was declared the winners, when the Papamoa Juniors were not on time to take the field 1 Football at Maketu, consequently, was conspicuous by its absence.
AT TE PUKE
Two matches were witnessed by a fair attendance at Jubilee Park.
Juniors—Old Boys v. PaeDgoroa In this game Old Boys led Paengaroa at half time by 5 points to nil, : M. Collins having scored a fine runaway try which was converted by S. Sherman. Paengaroa soon equalised, Wickham scoring land Wilkins adding the extras, and were unlucky on the run of the play in the second spell, not to win. The referee was Mr J. Valder. Seniors.—United v. Paengaroa The senior match which followed saw Paengaroa defeat United by 6 points to nil. Only one try, by Voltz, was scored, the points being gained by R. McKenzie, who was succcessful in kicking a penalty goal. Several opportunities of scoring tries were missed by both sides. During the first half, Paengaroa were mostly attacking but were penalised frequently, and B. Smith sent them back with line kicks. D. Williams, at full-back for United] took advantage of the ball being kicked too far ahead by the Paengaroa forwards and lined consistently.
The second half was more evenly contested and better football resulted. The Paengaroa forwards covered the ground in many fast runs, in which they were led by lluebe, Clark, Hughes and Voltz. The United defence was obliged to clear often. United retaliated when P. Webber and W. Nicholson made many clean breaks from line-outs and lose play, and were supported by Potene, gmithand Oxenham in the backs. ' Jl * ■:
