LABOUR PARTY
PONGAKAWA VALLEY BRANCH There was a fair attendance at the annnal meeting and election of officers. The Presidents, Secretaries, and some of the members of Te Puke and Pukehina branches were also present.
The retiring President, Mr E. C. Delves, in welcoming the visitors, expressed the pleasure of the Valley members, and hoped that such visits between all the Branches in the southern end of the electorate would become the general rule. The meeting appointed Mr Delves Chairman, and Mr Taylor, of Te Puke, Secretary for the meeting. It was explained that the reason for the election of officers being held later than nsual, was owing to the change over from small farms to State forest, causing a large number m of old members to seek other employment. MembershiD had dwindled down to eight. The period of change had about closed, and "already the membership up to thirty two, with more appli<£j tions to come in. Finance was also greatly improved, and with the assistance of Branches of the N.Z. Workers Union and timber workers, Labour Party interests were well looked after in the Valley. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr Delves for the work done during his term of office. ELECTION OP OFFICERS
Nominations were then called for the various officers the) result being:— President.—Mr E. C. Delves. Vice-President.—Mr H. A. Jaffray. Secretary- Treasurer. —Mr R. Pole. Delegate to L.R.C.—Mr E. C. Delves. >&zstfSKti Auditor.—Mr K. Ellis. Executive.—Messrs J. Oxenham, R. Brothers, H. Smith, K. Ellis, W. Murrey. General routine business then took place, after which the visitors gave some short addresses. The meeting concluded with a vote of confidence in Mr (A H. Burnett M.P. and in the Labour Party.
