A Very pleasant day was spent by members of the Croquet Club on the local greens on Thursday when a number of competitions were held, the following being the winners : Golf Croquet, Mrs Jamieson ; Progressive Croquet, Mesdames Perring and Sweefman (tie) ; Clock Golf, Mrs Wilkins; Long Shooting, Mrs Cowley ; Hoop Running, Mrs Cassin. At the close of the Sports Meeting on Wednesday afternoon, two kauri trees were planted in the Borough Council’s section adjacent to the Men’s Club, by the Mayor (Mr Cooney). In the course of a brief address, Mr Cooney said the Council hoped that in the not too distant future, a commodious and dignified muni cipal building would be erected on the section. He also mentioned that the Council had adopted a suggestion by Cr J. Persey that the ground known as Rugby Park be henceforth known as Jubilee Park.
