High Prices Paid in Hawkes Bay

The popularity of the Aberdeen Angus breed in the Dominion has never been demonstrated more Clearly than at the recent dis persal sales of the Waiterenui and Gmarunui Studs just complet ed in Hawkes Bay. A year ago, the Gwavas stud of 412 bead realised £13,143 an average of £3l 18s. Last week the Waiterenui 15s, an average of £34 13s 9d, thus beating the Cwevas average. With 61 head from the Glen Aroa stud sold in the same sale as Waiterenui, & total of £13.582 was realised for 395 head, tnaklrg an average for the two days sale of £34 7s 81. As the sale of the OmaiuiiUi stud realised over 3500 guineas, a total exceeding £l7 000 was thus paid for Aberdeen Angus in a space of a week. Higher prices were also paid for ir dividual anima's than a year ago. Twice £3OO was exceeded, and the twenty top priced animals, all of which exceeded three figure prices, averaged 170 gos. The top prlce of the Waiterenui Sale was 310 gns for the last season’s winning yearling bull at the Hawkos Bay Show, and at the Omarunui sale, 300 gne, was paid for last season's liawkes Bay Champion bull, a rising three-year-old.
