District Council IMhgln Te Puke
The Western Bay of Plenty District Council of the Douglas Social Social Credit Movement of New Zealand, held a meeting in St. Andrew’s Hail, in the even icg of the 30th April. There was an attendance of upwards of 50 delegates and members, the following branches being represented ! —Te Puke, Tauranga, Manawahe, 1 e Puns, Bethlehem, Paengaroa, Pongakawa, The Mount, Omokoroa, Papamoa, Gate Pa, Oropi. Obauiti and Omanawa. The President, Mr C. S. Moffat, was in the chair. . The minutes cf the previous meeting were read and confirmed. A request was received from Edgeeumbe for the formation of a branch. It was decided that a party including Messrs Moffatt and Blaymires proceed to Edgecumbe for the purpose on a date to be arranged. Notification was received from National head quarters to the effect that the Movement had dedided to support the ‘ League to Abolish Poverty” in its campaign to organise a petition for presentation to His Majesty in December next. It was decided to forward petition forms to branches desiriDK same. It was decided to invite the Rev, W. W, Averill, of Auckland, to speak on two nights in Tauranga and Te Puko respectively at an early date. It was decided to forward the remit re the issue of membership cards to the National Council.
A Te Puna remit requesting that the political Committee set up by tbe Conference be asked to report on tbe situation in the Tsuraega district was also forwarded to the National Council. The following delegates were elected to attend the forthcoming meeting of the National Council in Auckland ! Messrs Moffa t Sanders, Ryburn (or another), and Keenan, with Mrs MacDonald (Oropi) as supernumerary. The secretary advised that collecting cards for the purpose of building up an Organisation Fund were available, and it w»s decided to distribute a supply to branches The President read a paper deal ing with the differrnces between the monetary policies of the Labour Party and the D. S. C. Movement. It was decided not to print tbe paper until the re suits of the Labour Party’s Con ference were published. The matter of winter activities was raised by Mr Strugnell. The President explained that these would be left to the initiative of branches.
The date and place of the next Council meeting having been arranged, the meeting closed. An excfl’ent supper provided by the To Puke Ladies’ Committee concluded the evening.
