Jubilee Bonfire
To form their link in the Empire chain of bonfires to celebrate the King’s Jubilee, tbß Pcngakawa Boy Scouts lighted a beacon on Mr J B. Cawte’s proparty at Pongakawa last Monday night. The boys, helped by some of the settlers, hsd, during the day, built a huge pile of logs, ti tree, etc.. which, shortly after the match bad been applied by the Scout, master, blsz-?d so well that it could be seen miles away. Quite a number of residents attended, and as the flames leapt higher and higher all j dried in siDging ‘‘God Save the King” and popular patriotic songs, to the aocempam ment of a concertina. After singing *'Auld Lang Syne” all wended their way home, satisfied that although they could not decorate their farms with flags and col oured lights, they had done their little bit to celebrate the Jubilee.
