Te Puke Branch

The monthly meeting of the Te Puke Women’s Institute was held In St. Andrew’s Hall on the 7th May. Mrs Crowley presided over It fair attendance of members. Plans for the Drama Festival to be held in June were discussed, the choosing of a suitable play being left in the hands of the Dramatic Circle. Remits for the forthcoming Conference to be held in Auckland in July were also disouseed and it was decided to send Mrs Crowley as a delegate to same. Lunob, at whioh Mrs StenhoUso President of the Tauranga Federation, was present,' was then served by the hostesses.

Group Ming

The third meeting of tho Te Puke Group was held in St. Andrews Hall on Tuesday, May 7* There was a veiy good attendance. Mrs McNaughton presided and welcomed the visitors, Mrs S ten house (President of the Federation), Mrs Wood (Secretary) and Miss Baker, of Tauranga. Mrs McNaughton then spoke on Institute affairs and asked for voluntary subscriptions towards the Jubilee Cancer Fund, members liberally responding. It was announced that the Rest Cottage was now available for the winter months at 12s 6d per week.

The forthcoming Drama Festival was discussed and lb was decided to hold same on June 18 in Te Puke, each Institute to be asked to produce a play, the time limit to be 30 minutes. The winning team will be sent to Tauranga to compete at the Drama Festival being held there on June 26. Mrs McNaughton was appointed President for the ensuing year. Mrs McNaughton then called upon Mrs Stanhouse to address the-meeting and presented her with a beautiful bouquet. Mrs Stenhouse thanked the members for the gift and then gave an interesting address on the charges of womanhood through the past ages, and their uplifting through the realization of their own value ggid strength. Mrs Stenhouse was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Miss Baker then demonstrated spinning from the fLeca with a spinning wheel, which was fol-. lowed with keen interest, many Samples of knitting being shown.

Afternoon tea was then served by the Papamoa members and was thoroughly enjoyed. An exhibition of antiques was arranged by the Te Puke members and a very interesting dif play was on yiew. A bring and buy stall in charge of the Paengaroa members did good business, the profits going to aid the Federation.

Mrs Gemming won the Chrysanthemum competition, Miss Chappell proving the winner of the kitchen utensil competition. Pf ; 23B were donated by Mrs MeN&ughton and the Pukebina W.I Votes of thanks were accorded to Miss Baker for her demonstration, Mrs T, Palmer for judging the fl owers, the hostesses and gt*ll*holders and’ all -who had helped in the exhibition of ani?que3.
