Girls' Educational Course
Between 70 and 80 girls are attending the Girls Educational Gourse at Tauranga, organised by the Women’s Division of the Farmer’s Union. Practically all the girls are the daughters of farmers. They were welcomed on Tuesday morning by Mrs W. J. Law, the newly appointed Provincial President, and speeches cf welcome were also made by the Mayor of Tauranga (Mr Tunks), Mr Eeam (President of the Farmers’ Union). Miss Porter (Captain of the Girl Guides). Mrs Hickey (President of the Women’s Institute), and Mrs White (Secretary of the Tauranga Branch of the Farmers' Union). Community singing, led by Mrs Law, was followed by addresses by Mrs Christian and Mr Bell.
In the afternoon, a demonstra tion of soup and salad making was given by Miss Keatley, in the Technical School, and a visit was made to the arts and crafts classroom where an exhibition of pupils work has been arranged. Folk dancing and music occupied the evening. Mrs Christian giving a lecture on '‘Music, especially Songs” and illustrations of various soDgs being given by Miss Mountfort and the Rc-v. D, H. Stewart. .Several songs were sung by the girls, a duet by Mrs Christian and Miss Mountfort and a song by Rev Stewart.
