At the last meeting of the Borough Council it was decided that a, kauri tree be planted in Rugby Park on the occasion of His Majesty’s Silver Jubilee and that arrangements be made for an appropriate ceremony on Wednesday*. We h ave been requested by Mrs W. J. Law to express her thanks and the thanks of those associated with her in organising the recent Hospital entertainment to Misses Joy Persey, Gwen Ryan. Nancy Riddell and Joan Wilson, who acted as ushers at the concert. Mention of these young ladies was inadvertently omitted from the report. Bartley, general manager of the Auckland Electric Power Board, who recently returned from abroad. When, however, goods came to be bought, the purchase value was somewhere about 4/8.

High praise for the hospitality of the Japanese was paid by Mr Charles McMullen, an American tourist, who was interviewed in. Palmerston North. He instanced the recent world conference of the Rod Cross in Japan and said that while the delegates were there they were provided with free hotel accommodation, having to pay for their meals only. They were given every possible concession in other ways, and railway excursions were free. Personally, he had been entertained in several Japanese homes and a kinder people to strangers and a more courteous race he had yet to meet. .

At the lecture on Sunday last Pastor L R. Hajvey, of Tauranga, delivered his first address to a company of interested listeners. The speaker unfolded the Prophecy of Daniel showing how the prophecy deals with the closing scenes of eatth prior to Christ’s Seoond coming. The speaker urged all to accept Christ as their ‘personal Saviour and to make the Word of God their guide, It was announced that Pastor Harvey would take for his next lecture ‘’Christ’s Own Prophecy : Nine great events to precede the seoond advent.’* At each meeting questions are invited.
