Town Board

The first meeting of the newlyelected Town Board was held last night, there being present Messrs F. Bostock, J. Persey, L. Harris, G. Sweetman, H. E. Butcher, and H. Cuff. Mr Cooney was absent. On the motion of Mr Cuff, seconded by Mr Bostock, Mr Cooney was elected Chairman for the ensuing year. Mr Bostock was voted to the chair.

Mr Cuff moved the confirmation as a special order of a resolution passed at a special meeting providing for the payment of interest and sinking fund charges out of the general fund. — Seconded and carried.

Mr W. A. McLean, Rotorua Town Clerk, advised that the Municipal Conference would be held at Rotorua, commencing on Thursday, 2nd Maroh, 1933, and stating that he would be pleased to arrange for the accommodation of delegates. Mr C. Walker, district organiser Small Farm Plan, advised that the Under-Secretary, Department of Lands and Survey, is not prepared to allow the Atuaroa Village sections to be used under the Small Farm Plan.

J. B. Unsworth, Ngongotaha, forwarded application for a license to sell fish from door to door in the Te Puke Town District. ’ On the motion of Mr Sweetman it was decided that a letter of thanks be sent to Rev. Witheford for the splendid work he had done in connection with the Relief Depot. Mr C. H. Perring wrote asking what action was to be taken with regard to noxious weeds on ab sentee and other sections. A suggestion by Mr Sweetman that members should make a visit of inspection on Wednesday week was approved.

The Chairman and Mr Sweetman wera authorised to sign the rate book.

The appointment of committees mulled as follows i—Building t Messrs Bostock and Sweetman (chairman) i Finance 1 Messrs Cooney, Sweetman (chairman) and Persey 1 Baths l Messrs Guff (chairman), Persey and Sweetman ; Electric : Messrs Bostock, Cooney and Guff (ohairman); General Purposes : Messrs Butoher (ohairman) and Persey; Water : Messrs Bostock (chairman), Butcher and Harris: Fire Brigade : Messrs Cuff, Harris and Persey (ohairman); Works : Messrs Bostook (c hairman), Persey and Butoher, ' Mr W. O. Knigbt, eleotrio foreman, was given permission to alter the position of certain poles in the main street where they were overburdened with wires; also, to purchase additional amp meters.

Mr Persey said he had been approached by Mr Fagan and asked if the Board would' allow him to put in a crop of turnips on a portion of the Atuarpa Reserve. He would keep the weeds down, plough and leave the land in a condition to grass—Referred to the General Purposes Committee. The foreman was authorised to report on the necessity of unproving the footpath in front of the Premier Cash Drapery. '

Mr Sweetman referred to complaints as to breaches of the motor traffio in the Main Street which might lead to accidents — The matter was referred to the Traffio Inspector, Mr Lowe (foreman) reported that he had inspected the roading leading to the Hospital and estimated the cost of improve* menta at about £?.—lt was decided to notify the Board of the cost,
