Papamoa Women's Institute
At a recent meeting of the Papamoa Institute, visitors from Tauranga and Te Puke were welcomed.
Remits for the forthcoming Biennial meeting of the Bay of Plenty Women’s Institu’e to be held at Whakatane were discussed.
A letter of appreciation and thanks for a present of New Zealand butter was read from an English link.
It was decided to send a donation to the Rev Witheford to be spent in needy cases. A competition for the best Madeira cake was won by Mrs Morton, Mrs R. McNaughton being second. For the best thrift article Mrs Reid was awarded first prize. Mrs Palmer, of Te Puke judged the exhibits. Mrs Johnston gave a demonstration of Marquetry, Poker and Pewter work and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. An exchange of plants was effected. Keen interest is shown in the annual potato growing competi tion.
The Thrift and trading tables brought in good revenue. Tea was served by the hostesses Mrs Riddell and Mrs Pevreal.
