Valedictory

An enjoyable sooial evening was held in St Columba Hall, Grey Lynn, last Wednesday evening, when over 100 friends and relatives assembled to celebrate the 70th birthday of Mr Chas. Bishopriok. The stage was dec* orated with bowls of iceland poppies, arum liilies and blue lupins. The guests were reoeived by Mr Chas. Bishopriok and his two daughters, Mrs E. H. Wrigley, who wore almond green crepe satin and a tinsel brocaded bridge coat and Mrs F. E. Gemming wearing blue floral georgette and a black satin ooatee. *

A short musioal programme was commenced with singing, the song leader and aa* oompanist being the Rev E. Chitty t Musioal items were giveD by the Misses Faulder (2), Z. and Clough (2). Humorous reol* tations were given by Mr T. Gat* land (‘‘Uncle Tom” of 1Z R). Mf F. tSouster gave a selection on handbells, A danoe was given by Miss M. Jennings and a very amusing dialogue ‘Contradictions' was contributed by Misses J, Douglas and -P. Brewer. Mrs Hiscock and Miss Faulder acted as accompanists.

Mr E. Jov, Organist and Choif* master on behalf of the members of the Choir presented Mr Bishoprick with a large haodsomaly framed photograph of the interior of the new St Columba Churoh, Competitions and danoing fol» lowed. Danoe musio- was tributed by Mrs Hiscook and Mf N. Crowder, A dainty supper was served, after which the 70 candles on a handsome birthday cake were lit amidst cheers. After the outtingof the cake,danoing was resumed until midnight, when the singing 'of “Auld Lang Syne,’* ‘For he’s a jolly good fellow* and the National Anthem brought to a conclusion what was acknowledged by all to be one of the most pleasant sooial funotions held in Grey Lynn.

Miss Nellie Riddell, Whosfc marriage is to take place shortly was the guest of honour at a pleasant little dance held in the $3 Parish Hall on Friday evening ■ last. There was a large gather- '$ ing of friends and a very enjoy* able time was spent. During supper adjournment Mr N.
