TOWN BOARD

A meeting of the Town Board was held last night. Present: Messrs H. O. Cooney (Chairman), F. Boßtock’ J. G. Saunders, A. Budd, G. Sweetman, H. E. Butcher and H. Cuff. A letter was read from the Secretary of the Town and asking for a donation towards the purchase of new instruments. — The Board decided, on the motion of Mr Budd, to make a grant of £b. An application from E. R. Catley for permission to sell icecream was referred to the health Department. An application from Peter Sigich for a license to open the billiard room on Mr Geraghty’s premises was granted subject to the Police report being favourable. It was also decided to ask the Police Department to expedite the report. A letter was received from the Licensing Committee, Tauranga, enclosing certificate authorising the issue of a conditional license to Mr G. S. Butler, of Tauranga, for a booth at the Te Puke A. and j?. Show. A letter was read from the Post and Telegraph Department approving of the erection of a street light on the guard arm of the pole at the corner of Jellicoe aed Belvedere Streets.

An application from Mr T. E. Palmer for a building permit for washhouse and bathroom to property owned by Mr J. McDowell, was referred to the Building Committee.

A recommendation by Mr Nicholls, foreman, that water be laid on to the Town Board site next the Club, for the purpose of washing down the truck and grader, was approved. —It was also de cided to authorise the Works Committee to erect suitable gates at the entrance to the section. On the motion of Mr Bostock it was decided that Mr Nicholls, having undertaken the duties of foreman, be-paid a weekly wage of £5. It was further decided that Mr G. Johnston be placed on the permanent staff at a weekly wage of £4 ss.

Mr Bostock raised the question of beautifying Moehau Street by the planting of red gnm trees. He stated that the residents were willing to co-operate, and asked if the Board would assist in the purchase of material for proper guards.—Mr Bostock was asked to furnish an estimate of the cost and it was also decided that a report on the trees previously planted in the streets be prepared.

A number of accounts were passed for payment and the meeting adjourned.
