Members of the A. and. P. Association are reminded of the working bee on the show grounds on Monday next. During the past few d£ys, over 6000 sheep mostly in-prime condition, have passed through the dis* trict, en route for/the Waikato. The sheep have l>£en on the road for about fodr w£eks, having been” driven from We East Cape and Tolago Bay districts. The entertainment given by the English Futurists’ Company in the Alliance Hall on Tuesday night, attracted a very large audience, visitors being present from all parts of the district, and the programme, judging from the laugbtor .and applause, was thoroughly enjoyed. The company intends paying a return visit to Te Puke at an early date.

A thresher shark, 14ft 2ins in length and estimate/ to weigh fully 600 lbs was / caught off Mayor Island rec/ntly by Mr Ted Cross of GJhritftchurch, after a vigorous struge/e lasting over three hours. A. mako shark weighing 340 lbs was also captured by Mr D. Manson, of Christchurch. An entertainment is to be given in the Alliance Mail on Monday evening next in the shape of a Maori Cabaret, by a troupe of Native performers from Ngaruawahia. The proceeds will be in aid of a Maori Convalescent Hospital at Ngaruawahia. The programme will consist of hakas, poi dances, waiatas, Hawaiian steel guitar solos, hula dances, songs, etc.

A triangular rifle shooting oontett was fired on Monday last on the Tauranga rifle range, between teams of six moil aside’ from the Opotiki, Whakatane and Tauranga Glebs, and resulted in a win for Whakatane with a score of 480, Opotiki being second with 461, and Tauranga third with 456.

Mr J.P. Kalaugher, the energetic Secretary of the New Zealand Friesian Association will be present at the Show on Wednesday next and will give a demonstration on the points and qualifications to be looked for in true type Friesian cattle. Mr Kalaughec demonstrates !at leading Shows in the Dominion with recognised ability and all interested in dairy cattffi should find the demonstration both interesting and instructive.

Reference to the support being accorded to the New Zealand Cooperative Pig Marketing Association was made by Mr S. H. Judd, chairman of .the association, at Pukekoho last week. Ho said the association was receiving between 2000 and 3000 fat pigs weekly for dressing and sale, and the total received since the association commenced accepting pigs in November last was 10,000. The marketing side of the association’s activities was proving satisfactory. Together with other firms, the association was taking up with the Government the question of how the £30,000 subsidy to be granted by - the Government sbouid be distributed.

The construction , of a 50,000volt transmission line from Arapuni to Waiotahi, near Opotiki, a distance of 60 miles, is now under way. The line will be used to supply the Bay of Plenty district with power when the Arapuni works are completed. Work has been started at both ends and seven miles of poling has been completed. An extension is being made of the 50,000 voltage transmission line from Hamilton to Knotty, and it is anticipated j that this will be completed within the next few months. The line will he used by the Central Power Board to enable it to give better service to consumers in the area north of Huntly.
