SPRINGBOK'S VISIT.

The following is the Whakatane team selected to plav Te Puke to-morrow: Keepa, G. Mexted, Abbott, Stewart, Luxton, Carter, Sullivan, Smyth, Rororiko, Heather, J. Garlick. A meeting of the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union was held in Whakatane on Saturday evening, Mr Parata presiding over the following Messrs Phelan (Tauranga) Hawkins and Martin (Opotiki). INTER-PROVINCIAL ' MATCHES The South Auckland Rugby Union had suggested that the Plenty should play a match at Hamilton, but the meeting was unable to sees its way clear to play South Auckland in Hamilton. Mr Parata explained that Hawke’s Bay would most likely play a match in Rotorua, but suggested that the match should be played in Whakatane which is more central. Mr Hawkins urged that Opotiki deserved a match there. Opotiki was at a “dead end,” he declared. Mr Montgomery maintained that expenses each season should be borne equally by each union. He was in sympathy with Opotiki’s requirements. It was decided to ask Poverty Bay to play a match against the Bay of Plenty at Opotiki. _ , , Nominations for North Island to plav the South Island were left in the hands of Mr Parata. A letter was received from Tauranga, asking that matches be played there against Hawke s Bay and Auckland teams. Discussion on these matters were deferred.

A match between the South African touring team and a team from the Bay of Plenty is to be played at Rotorua on August 31. Arrangements for‘the visit were discussed and left to Mr Parata, the selectors, and the Rotorua Union to deal with. It is understood that the Bav of Plenty team will assemble in Rotorua about a Week before their match with the South Africans and will play matches against Rotorua, teams.

The following arrangements were made for the playing of the remainder of the matches of the Kusab Cup competition:—Tauranga v. Whakatane, at Te Puke on Saturday, June 25. Mr Parrant. of Rotorua, will referee. The winner of the Taupo Rotorua match will play the Winner of the Whakatane - Tauranga match on Julv 2nd. If Tauranga beats Whakatane the match will be played at Rotorua. If Whakatane is victorious the final will be played in Whakatane. The referee for this match will be selected by the Auckland Referees’ Association, In the event of the final being a draw, two extra tenminute spells will be played.
