ROWING.

The anmual distribution, of trophies to the successful regatta and trials crews of the West End! Rowing Club, held in the All Saints' Parish Hall, Ponsonby, on Saturday last, was the occasion, for a large gathering of members and their friends, a very enjoyable evening being spent. The patron of the club (T. Peacock, Esq.) occupied the chair, and with him on the platform were Messrs F. L. Diddams (vice-president), A. G. Blakey (captain) and V. T. Nicholson (hon. secretary).

In the course of his opening remarks, the chairman congratulated the club on having experienced another successful season, both from a financial standpoint and in its activities as a rowing club. Despite the fact that a large number of its members were absent on military service, he hoped that the club would long continue to be a source of health-giving recreation to its members.

The presentation of the trophies donated by Messrs Kohn, Ltd,., was made on that firm's behalf by Mr F. L. Diddiams, who suitably congratulated each recipient on his success. The trophies for the winners of the "Klohn" shield! were presented by Mrs Fairs, who also presented the prizes to the winners of the Old Memberes' Race. The remaining regatta and club trophies were presented by Mr Peacock.

At the presentation of trophies (the gift of the late Mrs John Clark) the chairman stated that there was a sadness attached! to the item. As they were all aware, the services rendered by tlrat lady and her busbar d had hesn of a very exceptional character- for many years. He thought that it would only be right that they should take this opportunity to express what they all felt by way of sympathy with Mr Clark and regret at the loss' the club had' sustained by Mrs Clark's death. He asked the audience to do this by standing in silence.

Between the presentations an excellent musical programme was rendered by friends of the club, items being contributed by Mrs T. M. Stebbing, Misses Gardiner, G. Walmsley, G. D'Audney, Messrs Barry, 'Hitohings, P. Ross, P. Franchi, F. O'Connor, W. McClure, H. Tuck and the West End Orchestra under Mr T. Adams.
