BUTCHERS' PICNIC.
One of the most' enjoyable and successful picnics of the season was that held by the butchers of Auckland and suburbs, at Pine Island, on Wednesday afternoon of last week. Several thousand people were present, being conveyed to the scene of festivity by tne Osprey and Eagle. The day was beautifully fine, so that the trip to and fro was greatly enjoyed, while the sports and other amusements were diverting even beyond expectation. The committee worked well, as butchers' picnic committees always do, and there was no lack of amusement for old and young. The little ones were especially well looked after, races being arranged for them, and other pastimes being provided. Mr Lewis was a most capable secretary.
