The weather was beautifully fine, warm, and springlike on Saturday, and in consequence there was a large attendance at the Auckland Racing Club's first Spring Meeting at Ellerslie. Amongst the ladi» B were :— Mrs T. Morrin.who wore a beautiful Sown of rich black silk, and pretty black onnet with cerise roses ; Mrs W. Bloomfield looked lovely in black, the bodice finished with deep frill of white lace, large black picture hat with pearl crown, and trimmed with black and white ostrich plumes ; Mra — Bloomfield stylish dress of small black and white check, hat to match; Mrs Maßefield, handsome terra-cotta gown, black bonnet ; Mrs Aitken Carrick, elegant gown of black and white striped silk, bonnet to match ; Mrs W. Dnfaur, pretty cornflower blue dress and jacket, black hat ; Mrs Ching, handsomeplum coloured gown, bonnet en suite; Mrs H. Thompson, elegant black silk gown, black bonnet, relieved with gold; Mrs Coe, pretty grey tweed gown, large hat to match ; Miss Griffiths looked charming in pretty blue dress and styliah green hat with blue ribbons ; Miss Dunnetc, neat blue tailor-made gown, fawn vest, alpine hat ; Miss Percival looked nice in green dress and cape, gem hat ; Miss E. A large number of members and friends were present on Friday evening at the fifth dance of the Ponaonby 'At Home ' The dance was an exceedingly pleasant one, everything possible being done by the commttee to promote the evening's enjoyment. The ladies' committee supervised the supper, and decorated the tables very tastefully. Adams' string bund supplied delightful music. The next dance terminates the season. Mra Devore looked very handsome in an elegant gown of heliotrope silk, veiled in black lace ; Mrs Dufaur, black crepon skirt, dainty blue silk bodice ; Mrs (Dr) Bedford, handsome black silk gown, veiled in black net with yellow chenille spots ; Mrs J R. The annual social held by the Poußonby Lodge of Druids in St. George's Hall, on Wednesday evening last, proved to be the greatest success yet achieved by that Order in Auckland ; 185 couples were present, and many more were unable to gain admission. The decorations were in the - hands of Bro HD. Pike, P. A., and a strong committee, and reflected the highest credit on all concerned. The social was opened .by a Druidic inarch, the brethern of the Order, who appeared in their ancient regalia, singing their Ode of Welcome. Then followed the Grand March, led by Bro. F. B. Smith and Miss E. Moylan. Bro. W. L. Moylan«P.A., acted as conductor of the march, and also as M.C. in conjunction with Bros. Tucker, P.A., Blair, P.A., and Wilson, as stewards, courteously attended to the dancers. Special mention must be made of the excellent music provided by the Ponsonby Druids' string Tband, composed of Bros. Ewart (violin), Bragge (piano), Richards CD. bass), A. White (cornet) and Walker (trombone). A light supper was provided and much appreciated. During tne evening songs ana recitations were rendered by various members, and by Miss Harley and Mrs Sneddon. Extras were played by Bros. Bragge, White and Cowley. Bro. A. Mewburn, V.A., the Hon. Sec, deserves great credit for the assiduous manner in which he worked to achieve the success attained. Piggott, sea-green relieved with creme lace ; Miss White, creme trimmed with cardinal ; Miss Mewburn, pretty creme; Miss Wilson, neat black gown, canary sleeves ; Miss T. The children's bazaar in connection with St. John's. Paruell, will be opened on Monday, 2sth instant, by the Bight Rev. Dr. Lenihain, and continued every uight during the week. Each night will have its peculiar attraction. The first will be devoted to minstrdl songs by Parnell amateurs; second, concert ; third, fancy dancers ; fourth, dance for visitors ; fifth, recitations and fancy dancers ; forcune telling, palmistry etc., will be an additional attraction. A Gisborne correspondent sends a few of the costumes worn oa the occasion of the football match between Hawke's Bay and Poverty Bay. The marriage of Mr Alfred Pollard, of Grafton Road, to Miss Foley, eldest daughter of Madame Foley, took place quietly at the residence of the bride's mother, Symond-street, on Tuesday, Sept. 15th. The Eev. Mr Dewsbury officiated. The bride wore a beautiful gown of creme striped cashmere,' with silk sleeves, and tastefully trimmed with Bilk lace and ribbon coronet of orange blossoms, tulle veil, and she carried a lovely bouquet tied with long loops of moire ribbon. Miss Sis Foley attended her sister as bridesmaid, attired in a very pretty pale blue dress finished with creme .lace and ribbon, and she carried a beautiful- banquet. Mr George Pollard acted as best man. After the ceremony the bridal party were entertained at a splendid wedding breakfast by Madame Foley, who wore a handsome gown of black silk,,fiigriphed with jet and lace.
