Caledonian Sports.

The Scotsmen of Auckland are looking forward with much interest to their national sports in the Domain on New Year's Day. Elaborate preparations are being made for the occasion, and there is every reason to believe that it will be a most successful re-inauguration of what was at one time considered to be the chief sports gathering of tbe year in Auckland. There are upwards of thirty events on the programme, and at the time of writing the prospects for large entries were exceptionally good, although tbe promoters had not been able to overcome the hostile attitude of the Amateur Athletic Club management. The programme comprises footraces of every conceivable kind (including the Caledonian Handicap of £20), tests of strength and skill with the hammer, shot, caber and quoits, wrestling match, bioycling events, and every description of Highland dancing competitions. There is amusement to suit every taste, and as the Sunday-school fete will be proceeding in the outer Domain, and as there are no other sports gatherings in Auckland on New Year'B Day, it is only reasonable to expect that the Caledonian sports will attract a large crowd.
