'Little Monte Christo.'

Miss Amy Vaughan and her Amazons are to be coneratulated on tbe decided success achieved in their production of ' Little Monte Christo ' on Monday and Tuesday evenings last. It is an adaptation of Dumas work and emanated from the fertile pen of Mr Travers"Vale. The libretto is sparkling, and the local witticisms, which flow incessantly throughout the burlesque, are provocative of continuous laughter, while the musical part of the work, which was placed in the hands of Mr E. Burke, was cleverly cempored, and proved him to be auite equal to the responsible task allotted. Ahe scenery was from the brush of Mr Neville Thornton, on whom it reflects great credit, while the dresses worn were particularly handsome and costly, and no flaw can be found in the staging. Miss Amy Vaughan played the three principal characters with undeniable success. Her acting was energetic and graceful, and her voice in goed order, and seldom before has she sustained her characters with more intensity and ability than on this occasion. Miss May Tracers proved very acceptable as Mercedes, being graceful and effective, while Miss Wyniard's Marguerite wan nicely acted. The burlesque villains, Miss Annie Vaughan, Daisy Thornton, and Max Rinkle, were very tragical, the latter being the principal of these ' villains of the deepest dye. Mr 0. White as Moslevi, the King of Otahuhu, shines perceptibly, his treatment of the part being all that could be . desired, while his funny sayings and doings keep the . audience convulsed with laughter. Tom Maokimm adds to the fun of the piece as Catherine, one of those representations into which he infuses such spirit, and which, though small in itself, is made something of in Tom's hands. A bevy of charming damsels went through the cutlass drill, taught them by Mackinim, in good style The numerous incidental solos and choruses were most effectively rendered by the company, and the whole reflects great credit on the management for tne . careful training of their large staff . Next Saturday evening Miss Vaughan will provide another of her series of winter concerts, when an unusually attractive programme will be presented, and a bumper house may be anticipated.
