ATTENTION.
The formal enrollment of thirty members for the Auckland Volunteer Cavalry Corps took place on Wednesday evening at Mr Hazell's riding school, Great North road. Mr Seccombe. the well-known brewer was appointed captain and Mr Whitson lieutenant, and a number of other appointments were made. The captain addressed the men, making a. capital speech, which was frequently interrupted by the applause of the aspirants for military glory. Mr Seccombe subsequently presented the Corps with a handsome silver trumpet, and after a good deal more speech-making had taken plrace the company adjourned to the Edinburgh Castle, where a number of to:isfs were honoured in. fizz, supplied to the order of the gallant Captain, Mr Suiter also " shouting" a round of the sparkling vintage. The company dispersed at a late hour full of ambition and champagne. Mr Seccombe reckons his appointment as Captain will mean an outlay of a couple of thousand a year.
