VICTORIA BRIGADE
Our genial parson now hath joined The military order, And when our Russian foes appear Will smite them with soft sawder. For though he's not a fighting man, In times of peace, at college, He master'd the art of self-defence 'Mongst other various knowledge. His faithful warden, too, who has In battle oft been tried, Will join, aud from the enemy The warrior parson hide. For right fornenst his parish priest This soldier tall will stand, And guard him from the bullets fierce, St. Matthew's plate in hand. Oh ! Captain Isaacs, 'tis our wish On Sunday you will come And listen to our chaplain preach, And hear the "horgan hum." And though acts ostentatious We know you don't admire, 'Twould please us if you'll occupy A front seat in the choir. And, Captain, dear, -.ye surely hope That you will not forget, On rare occurrences like this, The appointment should be "wet."
