BAD LANGUAGE.
CONDUCT AT DANCE HALLS. A SERIOUS OFFENCE. DETERMINATION TO SUPPRESS. The determination of the police and the support of the magistrate in suppressing the use of bad language about dance halls were emphasised in the Police Court at New Plymouth. Sergt. T." F. Brenchley, who appeared for the police, said he had pointed out to the Court on previous occasions the conduct of some persons who attended the Fitzroy dance hall and said the police were determined to suppress the use of indecent language and asked the Court’s assistance in that direction.
The magistrate, Mr. W. IT. Woodward, said lie certainly joined with the police in their endeavour to check this kind of conduct and he was also determined to do his share in putting a stop to the use of this kind of language. He warned the defendant in the ciu'o that he was liable to a term of imp l- ! sonment for 12 months, but lie did not wish to send a young* man to gaol but would have to impose a substantial fine.
