HISTORIC CARBINE.
MUZZLE-LOADING WEAPON
PRESENTED TO MUBEUM. Presented by Mrs. J. G. W. Dal rymple (Wellington), whose late, husband made a collection of interesting weapons, an historic muzzle-loading carbine is now in the Dominion Museum. It was captured by !o Kooti’s followers when they seized tho schooner Rilloman at the Chatham Islands in 1868, and it was subsequently used by the Maori rebels against tho whites, in bloody massacres of tho Hauhau rising. Tn addition to the gun, Mrs. Dalrymplu, has presented to the museum a bundle of interesting swords, including a Georgian duelling sword, South American machete, Ghurka kukri, and cavalry sabre believed to have been used in the Charge of the Light Pri gade.
