CRASH FROM BRIDGE. Motorist’s Narrow Escape. TWO MEN DIVE TO RESCUE. ACCIDENT AT WAITAKARURU. A narrow escape from being trapped and drowned when the car he was driving crashed through the eastern approach of the Waitakaruru stream
bridge on Saturday evening was ex
perienced by a Mr. Hopkins, of Wailii, wiio was on his way to Auckland. The car. a light closed model, hit the opposite bank of the stream and turned completely round, sinking to a depth of about Bft., the tide being in at the time. Messrs. G. and S. Beaver, who were at their home nearby, heard the crash, and were quickly on the scene. They dived into the stream and brought the motorist, who had escaped, evidently through a car window, to the bank. Mr. Hopkins received a nasty gash to one of his legs and suffered from shock, lie was later taken to Auckland by a friend. MOTOR-CYCLIST INJURED. CRASH INTO FENCE. On Saturday evening a motor-cyclist came to grief at the corner of Baillic and Sealey Streets, colliding with the High School fence. He received faci.il injuries and was attended to at the public hospital.
