POWERS OF ARREST.
FOR TRAFFIC INSPECTORS. INTOXICATED DRIVERS. MOTOR UNION’S DECISION. [By Telegraph.—Press Association]. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 24. A suggestion that powers of arrest be granted to traffic inspectors, provided they were properly trained, was approved by the South Island Motor Union at a conference yesterday.
Commenting on the North Island Union’s objection to power being given to inspectors to arrest intoxicated drivers, a delegate pointed out that tho Government had only to make the inspectors special constables to give them powers of arrest.
