THE MODERN WAY.
TRAINING FOR JOCKEYS. WHAT USED TO BE RULE. In Australia and New Zealand many good races have been lost through a jockey not being as fit as his mount. 'Some old-time English owners had pronounced views as to the condition of jockeys, and Lord George Bentinck used to say that no jockey was fit to ride in a race who could not strip liko a prize-fighter in training.
On one occasion lie admonished a jockey in the following terms: —“Now, I saw you come in a chaise; you don't ride for me at all this week.” If Sir George were living now ho would have to alter his views, with so many jockeys turning up in motorcars to ride work, let alone races.
