TRAGIC SMASH.

THAMES RESIDENT KILLED. Car Collides With Pole. FATALITY NEAR PAEROA. ACCIDENT ON SATURDAY NIGHT. A tragic motoring accident occurred at Waitoki, on the main highway between Paeroa and Te Aroha, on Saturday night at about 9 o'clock, resulting in the death of Miss Juno Sidney McGlynn, aged 20, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. McGlynn, Edward Street, Thames.

The car, an open two-seater model, was owned and driven by Mr. Douglas Alfred Court, of Thames. When about 6£ miles from Paeroa tho car apparently skidded and left the road, crashed over a ditch, and struck a pole. The whole of the rear portion of the vehicle was completely wrecked, while the left-hand back wheel was wrenched off. A passing motorist discovered the overturned car and advised the Paeroa police. Constables A. J. Maiden and A. Beck, accompanied by Dr. W. W. Little, rushed to the scene and the victims were taken to the Paeroa Hospital, but Miss McGlynn was dead on arrival. Mr, Court suffered cuts and facial abrasions and severe shock. The inquest was opened at Paeroa yesterday before the coroner, Mr. F. E. Flatt, J.P., and after evidence of identification, was adjourned. Funeral This Afternoon. The funeral of Miss McGlynn, which was largely attended, took place at Shortland Cemetery this afternoon. The services at the Church and at the graveside were conducted by the Rev, S. B. R. Corbin.
