QUARREL WITH LICENSEE

Jack Cummings Williams, for arson at Greymouth, was sentenced to one year's imprisonment by Mr. Justico Johnston in the Supreme Court yesterday. Counsel said Williams had quarrelled with a hotel licensee who leased tho hall to which Williams set fire. This was actually a drunken escapade. His Honour said arson might lead to loss of life, and Williams needed severe discipline than that to which he had hitherto been subject. For his own sake, and for the protection of the public, he must he sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment.
