Nash, hdd announced that assistance for fruitgrowers selling on the local market on a similar basis to that operating last year, as being 5/2 per case against 4/8 per case last year. The Employers' Union had finalised an agreement under the Agricultural Workers' Act with the New Zealand Workers' Union, subject to this assistance and the export guarantee already announced. The wages payable under the agreement will be: Orchard managers, £4 2/- per week, and other adult workers £3/18/-. The permanent youth's' scale will vary from 20/- per week to 52/6 per week, according to age from 15/years' to 21; •' casual workers;; adult males 1/9 per hour; adult iemales, 1/5 per week; youths, and girls up to 18 years, 1/- per hour; 18 and over, 1/3 per hour. Conditions of the agreement are in the main the same as last year. The hours are on a fortnightly basis and special provisions are made for picking stone fruit in times of--ui?gency. A number of points, in the last agreement which were the cause of soino misunderstanding have been clarified. The agreement became operative as from Monday, February 14.
