CASE CANCELLED.
VALUELESS CHEQUE. ARUNDEL MURDERER. REQUEST FROM POLICE. [By Telegraph.—Press Association] CHRISTCIIURCH, Feb. 18. The police have decided not to proceed with the charge against Randall Reginald David Smith, the Arundel murderer, of obtaining goods by means of a valueless cheque.
After being sentenced to death at Timaru for the murder 0f... William Gaby at Arundel, Smith was brought before the Timaru Magistrate's Court last week, on a charge of. obtaining money and goods to. the value of £8 1(5/7 at Seaeliff ,on September 13, three days after the murder, by means of a valueless cheque.
On the application of the police he was remanded to appear at Christchurch yesterday, but it was announced in the morning that, in accordance with a request by the police, the magistrate, .Mr. E. C. Levvey, had cancelled all further proceedings.
