MAORI LAND CLAIMS.
PRIVATE DISCUSSIONS. PRIME MINISTER'S PROMISE. [By Telegraph.—Press Association] WELLINGTON, Feb. 16. A conference of considerable importance to the native race was opened in Parliament Buildings yesterday, when representatives of tho claimants discussed with the Minister for Lands, the Hon. F. Langstone, the question of confiscated Maori lands.
The conference-, which is private, may last for two days and an effort is to be made to reach a satisfactory settlement of the problem. It arises out of the undertaking given by the Prime Minister, Mr. Savage, some time ago to have the whole question thoroughly discussed.
