A PROTEST MADE.
DRINKING AT DANCES. CONCERN IN HAMILTON. COUNCIL TO TAKE ACTION. t.By Telegraph—Press Association). HAMILTON, Dec. 23. A petition signed by 130 residents, who described themselves us the women and mothers of Hamilton, was received by the Hamilton Borough Council last night. The petitioners asked the council to enforce some rule for the conduct of all those engaging public halls for dances, and to prohibit young girls from leaving the room during the progress of the dances unless payment -was made again to re-enter. The petitioners expressed the opinion that this would to some extent reduce the temptation for so much liquor to be consumed in private motor-cars. On the motion of the Mayor, Mr. J. R. Fow, the council decided to approach! the Government, asking that legislation be framed giving power to local bodies to deal with such matters.
