FOR THIRTY-TWO YEARS. MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT. FROM SOUTH AFRICA. IBy Teiegrapn.—Fr«»ss Association J WELLINGTON, Dec. 23. The distinction of lie'ing the father of the House of Assembly of the Union of South Africa belongs to Mr. C. I'. Robinson, member for Durban, who with Mrs. Robinson, arrived by the Wanganella yesterday on a visit to both islands prior to returning to Australia to attend the sesquicentehary celebrations. Mr. Robinson is the South African delegate. For the past 32 years without a break Mr. Robinson has been Parliamentary •epresentative for Durban, first in the Natal Parliament and, since the union in 1910, in the House of Assembly.

He was not disposed to comment on polities here or on any legislation introduced in recent times. His visit, he said, was purely a pleasure trip. In South Africa for some years a wave r prosperity had been experienced, due to an appreciation in the price of gold. They could have liad' surpluses each year for the past four years, he said. The bulk of the revenue was coming from taxation on gold mines and ther« was every indication of a continuance jof this prosperity.
