DEMAND FOR MEN.
TRADESMEN AND LABOURERS. BIG IMPROVEMENT SHOWN. PLACEMENT OFFICE BUSY. [By Telegraph.—Press Association] AUCKLAND, July 31. There has been a rush demand for general carpenters and farm labourers during the past few days, and a considerable number were included in the employment figures of the Auckland placement office yesterday. The demand for youths also continues to he active. Of a total of 125 men placed for the week, 50 obtained casual positions, 43 temporary and 32 permanent. Of 29 youths, 22 secured permanent employment and seven temporary. Nino of the youths went to country work. Four women were placed in permanent positions. The total of 158 for all groups compared with 134 last week. In addition to the placements with private employers, 120 men wove placed with Government Departments or local bodies. Of these, 77 started work under the Government's No. 13 special scheme with various local authorities.
