PAEROA-POKENO.
RAILWAY LINK. DECISION STILL DEFERRED. LETTER FROM MINISTER. The Paeroa-Pokeno railway proposal was discussed by the Paeroa Borough Council on Tuesday night. The Mayor, Mr. W. Marshall, said he had written to Mr. J. Thorn, M.P. for Thames, inviting him to endeavour to arrange for a trip over the proposed route for the Minister for Railways, Mr. D. G. Sullican, and the Minister for Public Works, Mr. R. Semple. These arrangements had not materialised. Mr. Thorn forwarded a letter which he had received from the Minister for Railways on the subject. "As you are aware," the Minister said, "the Cabinet decided to defer this matter, and as no indication was given as to the length of time for which it was to be deferred I regret that at present it is not possible to. give this proposal further consideration. A little later on, however, when some of tho works under construction are nearing completion, you might deem it advisable to raise the matter again so that the project can be reviewed." Regret was expressed by members of the council at the delay of the Government in undertaking this important work, and it was agreed to make fur* ther efforts to have the Ministers taken over the route, and to make further endeavours to have the line started.
