Parawai Aerodrome.
DRAINAGE OPERATIONS. MINIATURE CANAL FORMED. DREDGE MAKING PROGRESS. Good progress has been made by Messrs. Dredges, Ltd., on their contract tor ring draining and stopbanking the Thames district aerodrome site at Parawai. During the past fortnight or so that the drag-line dredge has been in operation, approximately 13 chains of drain have been excavated to a depth of about sft or 6ft, and 6yds wide. A start was made opposite the Parawai station, and the dredge has worked north almost to the corner adjoining the Rugby Union grounds. It will continue round the 90-odd acres, finishing up at the station again.
The ground is fairly soft, and it has been found necessary to continue using the log raft under the dredge to prevent it from becoming embedded.
The drain, or, as a matter of fact it is more like a canal, had rapidly filled with water, and looking at it from a distance it appears like a miniature river.
