MINER DROWNED.
CAUGHT BY SLIP.
FATALITY AT PUHOI. The only fatality reported locally as the result of the storm at the week-end occurred at Puhoi, beyond Waiomo, where an elderly miner, Mr. George F. Webster, aged 78, was overwhelmed in his shack by a slip and carried away in the deep flood waters of the Puhoi Creek and drowned. Deceased, who was caretaker at the Zechan Mine property, was fairly well known in Thames. The Thames police recovered the body and the inquest is to be held at the Courthouse this afternoon.
