Licensing Committee.
ELECTION THIS YEAR,
FIRST IN SEVEN YEARS
The election of the Thames district Licensing Committee, in common with other committees throughout the Dominion, is due to bo held Oil March 10.
It will be the first election for seven years, the committees having held office for an extended term since 1929 owing to the fact that the elections which were to lmvo been held in 1932 were cancelled by legislative action.
As the law originally stood, licensing committee polls were to be held every three years, but the Financo Act of 1931 contained an amendment, the effect of which was to provide for the election of committees on the second Tuesday in March following every national licensing poll. As there was no referendum on the licensing issue in 1931 the members of the committees elected in 1929 automatically continued in office.
The personnel of the Thames Committee is at present the presiding magistrate and Messrs. W. Bongard, J. McCormick, It. M. Rhodes (Thames), W. M. Wallnutt (Waihi), and W. J. Towers (Paeroa).
