“Running Shoes.”

GOVERNMENT BOARDS

NOT TO IMPEDE PROGRESS. An indication that special Government boards operating in connection with certain State Departments are nob going to run the present Government, was given by the Minister for Public Works at Christchurch yesterday. A Press Association message advises that the lion. K. Semple said when he took office as Minister for Transport he found, in common with other Ministers, that the powers of the Department had been relegated to the board. He had given notice to members of the latter that they could no longer obsruct, and that instead of big salaries they would bo presented with “running shoes.”

The Minister added that certain of the hoards, such as that for highways probably could be reorganised, but others likely to hinder the work of rehabilitation of the Dominion would be discontinued.
