Unemployed men who were to begin work on the Ashley River pi’oteotive works under the Unemployment Board’s new full-time contract scheme, went on strike on the ground that the prices quoted would not allow them to make 12/- per day. There are two camps, one of about 180 men from Rangiora, and the other of about 100 of Christchurch workers.
