TO-DAY'S PRELIMINARIES.

\ Special Committees Set Up. % ROU.ND-TABLE DISCESSION. WEEK-END ANNOUNCEMENT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association). (Received 2.50 p.m.). 'WELLINGTON, Jan. 8. , Cabinet assembled to-day for the first real working session, during the course of which it plans to formulate and set in motion its new policy. There was a full muster of Ministers, and Mr. J. A. Lee, Parliamentary Under-Secretary to the Prime Minister, was also present. In the course of an interview at the luncheon adjournment, the Prime Minister, the Hon. M. J. Savage, stated that the morning had been devoted chiefly to a formal roundtable discussion of the general position, after which sub-committees of Cabinet were appointed to deal with such matters as finance, transport, industrial questions and wages, including relief wages. Mr. Savage said these committees would mosjt likely sit at night and would report to the full Cabinet, which would be meeting daily until Friday, by which time he hoped to be able to give a preliminary outline of the Government’s proposals. The most important committee is that of Finance, the personnel of which is Mr. Savage, Hon. W. Nash, Hon. P. Fraser, Hon. H. G. R. Mason and Mr. Lee.
