TRANS-TASMAN SERVICE. Discussions At Sydney. PROGRESS OF PROPOSAL. EXTENSION FAVOURED. (A. and N.Z. Cable). SYDNEY, Feb. 28. "The results of the air mail conference have been distinctly gratifying, as far as the interests of New Zealand are concerned," said tho New Zealand Postmaster-General, Mr. A. Hamilton, to a representative of the New Zealand Press Association. "The negotiations throughout were conducted in a friendly atmosphere and the suggestions of all the participating delegates were fully investigated. "Both the British and the Australian delegates were favourable to an extension of the service from Sydney to New Zealand. "Subsequent to the main conference, the New Zealand and Australian delegates' discussed the possibility of initiating mail services across the Tasman Sea prior to 1937, and good progress was mad( as to the basis on which this ser vice might be established. The investigation of essential points is.already under Avay." Mr. Hamilton has cabled to the New Zealand Government stating that he agrees in principle with thf British scheme.
Sir Frederick Williamson, Director of Postal Services in Britain, and one of the British delegates, will accompany the New Zealand delegatior home. He will spend two or three weeks in New Zealand investigating' aviation possibilities.
